Dean Castle, Gatehouse

Although the gatehouse is entirely modern, being built 1935-36, it is a careful copy of the type of gatehouse built at Scottish castles in the late 16th century.  Note the loop-holes for guns - ornamental in shape, but still able to be used - the windows, half wood, half leaded glass, and the two rounded towers, similar to those built in 1567 at Rowallan Castle, about a mile away from the Dean.
