Altarpiece Tapestry

This splendid tapestry was made in the low countries, probably Brussels around 1480. It is a very fine example of the work of the famous tapestry weavers of that city and the design was produced by a painter 'The Master of St. Gudule'. It shows one of three panels depicting the nativity. This particular panel, the third one, shows the Magi bringing gifts to the baby Jesus. The frame is carved from wood, gilded and painted and bears the coat of arms of the Flemish family 'de Raet'.
