Flint scrapers, Mark Farm, Castle Kennedy

A selection of flint scrapers.  Most have been made by shaping and retouching large flakes.  Some of the scrapers have an oval or disk-like shape and others are square blades with a scraping face at one end.  Scrapers were multi-purpose tools used for preparing food and cleaning hides and leather.   Hundreds of flint tools were found in ploughed fields at Mark Farm in the 1930s.  They mark the site of a fairly large Neolithic settlement.  Many of these flints were collected by local farm workers and given to the local minister, R. G. Anderson.
