George Hamilton
George Hamilton was Sheriff Clerk of the Stewartry of
Kirkcudbright and lived at 'Ardendee' in the town. He was one of
the principal founders of The Stewartry Museum, and a plaque
dedicated to his memory can still be seen in the building, is
officially called 'The Hamilton Memorial Building'.
He donated his personal antiquarian collection to The Stewartry
Museum, and together with other collections this formed the core of
the museum's original displays.
