Octave Spinet on stand

This is a portable keyboard instrument, widely used in private homes in Italy throughout the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries to accompany singing. The case and stand of the instrument are coloured in dark blue with floral arabesques. The front lid bearing a coat of arms. The inner lid painted with panel showing putti and a figure in classical armour. The reverse has a poetical inscription in Italian.
