Austrian pochette
The pochette is a boat-shaped stringed instrument played
with a bow. This pochette was made by Austrian instrument maker
Johannes Bagany. The instrument features the carved head
of a lion, a detail that is often seen in viols and violas d'amore.
The body, neck and tailpiece of the isntrument is inliad with
alternating bands of bone and ebony, and the ebony fingerboard is
edged with bone.
