Communion cups, Quarrelwood Congregation, Kirkmahoe, 1745

  The congregation at Quarrelwood were Cameronians, supporters of Richard Cameron, a Covenanter killed by government troops in 1680.  Officially called the United Societies of the Suffering Remnant of the True Presbyterian Church in Scotland, they were known as McMillanites, after one of their early ministers, John McMillan.  The small congregation continued into the 1830s when it was absorbed into the Martyrs Church, Dumfries The cups are engraved with, "Belonging to the Old Covenanted Presbeterian Disenters in Scotland 1745"
