Kilmarnock Funeral Bell
After the Reformation of the Scottish Church in the 16th century,
the rituals associated with burial of the dead became simplified.
It was required to cover the coffin with a drape called a
'mortcloth' which was hired for the occasion. The Parish
'mort-bell' would also be rung.
