Spring Gun, early 19th century

Spring guns were rigged to fire when a string or other triggering device was tripped.  They were used as traps against poachers and trespassers. This gun dates from the early 19th century and was reported to be still in use in 1860 in Glenson Gardens near New Abbey, even though use of booby traps was made illegal in 1829.
