Criminal Officer's baton, c1840   Staff of Robert Neilson, Criminal Officer of Dumfries.  Robert Neilson was a Royal Navy midshipman before becoming the Criminal Officer of Dumfries.  He died in his home in Church Crescent, Dumfries on 16 November 1843.
