Police Clappers

Wooden clappers such as these were carried by policemen. When a policeman was in need of backup from fellow officers he would summon them by shaking the clappers as hard as he could. It is from this that the phrase "Run like the clappers" comes. There is a cross and the number 69 carved into the handle. Originally in the collection of Strathclyde Police.
