End over end barrel churn

Manufactured by Waide & Sons Ltd in Leeds, this model of barrel churn was distributed in the Stranraer area by Thomas Macavoy, Dairy Utensil maker and agent.   Barrel churns became popular in farm dairies towards the end of the 19th century.  At Garthland Mains, Stranraer, butter was still made using this type of barrel until 1969.
