Key Industries
At the heart of the region's social and economic development for
hundreds of years has been its industrial activities. In their
heyday heavy industries such as mining, textiles, railways and
heavy engineering made the west of Scotland world-famous, but just
as important were some of the less well-known and lighter
industries - clock-making and horn-work for example. Today, many of
the traditional industries have gone into decline, but have been
replaced by tourism and specialised companies
