Top Hat & Brush

This hat was purchased by James MacDonald in anticipation of his wedding, planned for October 1939.  However, the Second World War broke out, so it may never have been worn.  His bride Marjorie did not wear her wedding dress, getting married quietly in her “going away” clothes instead. James MacDonald rose to prominence in the civil service, and was based in the local headquarters in Brooms Road, Dumfries.
