German arming sword
A sword such as this object would have been used in combat when
a solider was 'armed'. The robust, sharply pointed blade would have
easily cut and overpowered opponents on the field of battle and
would have effectively been able to attack mail and bash plate
armour. This German arming sword features a twsited perfume stopper
pommel, and twisted terminals on its quillons. There are remnants
of gilding at the base of the grip and is notable for its unusual
trapezium-shaped fingerloop.
