Crossbow bolts
These steel-headed military crossbow bolts have a quadrangular
section and are mounted on a wooden shaft with fragments of wooden
flights. The four-sided heads are ground in spirals in order to
allow the bolt to spin in flight, using the same principles as a
rifle bullet. Crossbow bolts are heavy, dangerous projectiles that
are capable of piercing through flesh, bone and metal, and can even
prove fatal at 250 yards. Compared to arrows, crossbows bolts were
able to inflict more damage at long range.
