Milk Jug

The first milk of cream jugs were made in the early 1700s as tea became more popular. At first the milk was heated, but as the decades passed, cold milk became more usual.   The marks on it are- Marker's mark -- "IP" Dumfries town marks -- fouled anchor, stag's head   Purchased with the assistance of the National Fund for Acquisitions, administered with government funds by National Museums Scotland.
