Wool combs

Moorland sheep produce long silky wool.  This was combed to remove the short fibres, leaving the long fibres lying straight and parallel.  One comb was fixed to a table or post and the other, after being heated so that it would soften the lanolin in the wool, was used to draw the fibres from the fixed comb.  The fibres were then spun into a firm, hard yarn.
