The leisure-time of the people of the region has long been
filled with a wide variety of pastimes and activities. Many of
these, including football, curling and golf, have spawned players
and teams who have gone on to receive international recognition,
but for most, the weekly round of golf or game of bowls is more of
a social occasion than anything else. As well as a long history of
recreational and competetive sport, people of South West Scotland
have also been brought together to be delighted and amused by
concerts and shows.
