Rowallan Castle

Rowallan Castle is located near Kilmaurs in Ayrshire. It was the home of the Muirs of Rowallan but the present castle dates back only to the beginning of the 20th century. This modern castle was built by the Corbett family next to the ruins of  the Muirs' 16th century castle which was itself built around the fragments of  a 13th century castle. It is believed that Elizabeth Mure, wife of Robert II was born there.   The artist John McNicol was Glasgow-born but spent much of his life living in Ayrshire painting landscapes.
