Whetstone, Carronbridge
Carronbridge
Found on the east side of the Nith in the Iron Age enclosure at
Carronbridge, this whetstone is a typical example of the type.
Whetstones, made of stone, were used for the sharpening of knives.
This example has a long rectangular shaped block of fine grained
stone, probably sandstone. All the edges have been rounded off. It
is discoloured with probable red iron stains.
