Green Spindle Whorl

Compared to the other Spindle Whorls found in the Iron Age collection, this example is much smaller, and dome shaped. It is undecorated and has a straight central hole and flat base and is made from a stone of greenish colour.   Spindle whorls.   Combed or carded fibre was spun on a spindle fitted with a whorl which gave it momentum as it turned. Most textiles of this period were made of wool. The raw fibre and clothes made from it were often traded between tribes.
