Cremation burial, Cairnderry

During excavations of the Neolithic chambered cairn at Cairnderry in 2003 a Bronze Age cremation burial was found in a pit, cut into the soil just outside the outer kerb of the cairn.   The picture shows the upturned collared urn, surrounded by a mass of black charcoal and cremated bone, and placed to one side of it a fine, ground stone battleaxe.
