Battle-axe, Cairnderry
Cairnderry chambered tomb
A beautifully finished polished stone battle-axe. It is
complete with squared-off butt, slightly expanded and blunt blade,
dished upper and lower surfaces, and a central perforation that has
been drilled from both ends. It is made from locally occuring
granite.
The battle-axe was found together with a collared urn, an
accessory vessel (see SMAH 018 and 019) and a human cremation in a
pit that had been dug against the outer edge of the cairn.
The site was excavated between 2002 and 2004.
