William, Duke of Cumberland

This portrait of the Duke of Cumberland includes a small picture of his victory at the Battle of Culloden.  The Duke was nicknamed 'Sweet William' after his victory but was remembered with less warmth by those who had oppossed him, they dubbed him 'Stinking Willie', a name he still bears throughout Scotland after the attrocities and brutality he dished out against the communities in the North of Scotland became apparent in the aftermath of his victory.
