Craigie Castle (1)

This slide shows the remnants of Craigie Castle, an Ayrshire seat of the Wallace family.  It is situated just a couple of miles from the site of Riccarton Castle, another Wallace stronghold and the possible birthplace of Sir William Wallace.  It is thought that Riccarton Castle once stood where the Kilmarnock Fire Station is presently situated. Craigie Castle was originally built in 13th Century, and added to in 15th. The Wallace family name was recorded in Craigie as early as 1177, however it was John Wallace of Richardton (Riccarton) who assumed the title of Craigie and adopted the castle there as his main home around 1370.
