Ladies cape (1)

Black was a fashionable colour for capes and mantles during the 1870s bu the use of black ribbons and jet beadwork suggest it might have been adapted for funereal use.   The cape is made from a weighty woven fabric of a raised scroll design.  Large satin bows adorn the shoulders and at the neck, and sets of jet bead strands have been added to the front and behind the high round collar.
