Hand painted fan

In the latter part of the nineteenth century larger fans became fashionable.  This painted feather fan is of black feathers and decorated with hand painted birds, butterflies and flowers.  The sticks are of bone and are threaded with ribbon.  Attached to the metal ring is a silk tassel and fixing hoop for attaching to a dress.
