Gloves in the Shepherd's Plaid pattern, "A.M.Young" at wrist
Example of a Sanquhar pattern glove in fawn and brown wool to illustrate the "Shepherd's Plaid" design. This pattern derived from the effect of weaving with two colours to produce plaids or checks. A large woollen shawl or plaid was part of every shepherd's goods and gear, used as protection against the weather and for wrapping and carrying lambs and injured sheep. The gloves have the name "A.M. Young" knitted into the wristband.
