Quarry worker's pick

This pick axe was made by Paton and Dick, Glasgow.  This shape was called  "The Pad" or Scots pick.   Picks were originally used as farming tools.  In prehistoric times a large deer antler was cut down and one point used as a pick.  Picks have been used for mining, quarrying and road building and also weapons of war.
