Inrō (6)

  This unusual inrō has only one large compartment rather than the standard two to six small compartments.  It is also unusual because it appears to be made of carved wood that has been varnished rather than lacquered.  It features carved decoration, including large, sunflower-like flowers.  The accompanying polished wooden netsuke is delicately decorated with coloured plovers soaring over stylised gold waves.
