Replica Jeddart staff
In defence of their Border region dwelling, the townspeople of
Jedburgh (pronounced 'Jeddart' in Scots) were said to wield the
imposing Jeddart staff to frighten away reivers. The Jeddart staff
is a polearm with a long axe-like blade coming to a point above the
haft. The hafts are generally around 4 foot tall, although like
this object can be larger, and feature a handguard in the
upper-central portion.
This replica was produced by Claymore Armoury, which has been
producing weapons since the late 1960s in Ayrshire. It was
constructed by Thomas Yeudall, a master swordmaker.
