Stag’s head
Several Dumfries and Galloway families used the stag’s head on their crest, most notably the Maxwells.
The Canongate district of Edinburgh also used a stag’s head as a town mark, and this has led to the work of Dumfries silversmiths being mis-attributed in the past.
