Water jug with English sporting scenes
Blue and white water jug with English sporting scenes. Pottery
like this became popular in 17th and 18th Europe after Chinese blue
and white pottery began to be exported. These exports were
highly prized and often collected by royalty and the very wealthy.
After the initial popularity, Chinese designs were imitated by
European manufacturers. Later, inspired by these original
techniques and colourways, European manufacturers began to retail
domestic and decorative ceramic goods with Western designs.
