Bellarmine jug

Bellarmine jugs, also known as a Bartmann (German for 'bearded man') jugs, are decorated salt-glazed stoneware pieces that were exported from Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries. The jugs are notable for the beareded man moulded into the neck of the jug. The main hub of Bellarmine manufacture was in Germany's Cologne region.
