Chinoiserie cup and saucer

Cup and saucer decorated with a Chinoiserie pattern. Pottery like this became popular in 17th and 18th Europe after Chinese blue and white pottery began to be exported. These exports were highly prized and often collected by royalty and the very wealthy. After the initial popularity, Chinese designs were imitated by European manufacturers for the mass market.
