Ashet decorated with view of Stirling Castle
Large shallow oval dish with blue and white floral pattern and
view of Stirling Castle in the centre. Pottery like this
became popular in 17th and 18th Europe after Chinese blue and white
pottery began to be exported. These exports were highly prized
and often collected by royalty and the very wealthy. After the
initial popularity, Chinese designs were imitated by European
manufacturers. Later, inspired by these original techniques and
colourways, European manufacturers began to retail domestic and
decorative ceramic goods with Western designs.
