Mauchline ware trinket box (2)

Small rectangular wooden trinket box with domed lid.  Features several black transfer prints depicting the ruins at Dryburgh Abbey.  Inscriptions read:   (lid)  "SIR WALTER SCOTT'S TOMB, DRYBURGH ABBEY / CEDAR GROVE" (lid edge)  "MADE OF WOOD / WHICH GREW NEAR / DRYBURGH ABBEY" (base edge)  "DRYBURGH ABBEY / DRYBURGH ABBEY"   W & A Smith of Mauchline, Ayrshire developed the manufacture of transfer printed treen, or wooden ware which became highly popular as gifts and souvenirs.
