Ursari Gypsies
Another image of Ursari Gypsies with their bears. Unfortunately we don’t know where this photograph was taken and it may not be a McCormick original. The Ursari group described in ‘The Tinkler-Gypsies’ came from Romania and travelled across northern England and southern Scotland between 1895 and 1897.
‘They were very dark in colour, like Hindoos: the men and the older women were aquiline in features; some of the younger girls really beautiful, with lithe, graceful figures; all had splendid teeth.’
