A born folk-tale teller
Travellers like Mary MacMillan were great story tellers.
A born folk-tale teller, but one wants to hear and see her tell her tales fully to appreciate them. The grip she takes of her words, her intonation, attitudes and gestures, all make for a fuller comprehension and enjoyment of the tale. Some of these she spins out for hours and never halts for a word.
McCormick recorded a number of her tales and published one of them, ‘The King of the Fairies,’ in The Galloway Gazette.
