Francisco Herrara
the Elder was a leading artist working in Seville during the 17th
Century. He was also an engraver and a miniaturist. One of his
pupils is said to have been the towering figure of Spanish
painting, Velazquez and he is believed to have influenced the great
painter of the Spanish Baroque, Murillo.
This portrait of a young girl may be study for a larger
painting.
