Jock MacInnes is a Scottish contemporary artist. While painting a range of landscapes, MacInnes recurring theme is martime scenes and coastal seascapes. MacInnes' paintings often draw on memory, meaning his work is unfettered from exacting accuracy, and he embraces invention and discovery in his practice. MacInnes' ability to evoke mood and atmosphere in his paintings is achieved through the texture of the canvas as well as the subject he is painting. MacInnes prepares his own canvases and has developed a technique of scraping into the canvas, making it so that he paints into, not just onto, his grounds.   MacInnes taught at Glasgow School of Art from the late 1960s to the 1990s, when he turned to painting full time.
