Lady Stella Stevenson, née Fraser

This portrait of Stella, second wife of Baron Stevenson of Hombury was painted along with a matching one of her husband in 1923 to celebrate the knighthood he received for his services as a director in the Ministry of Munitions during the First World War.   Lord Stevenson was brought up in Kilmarnock and before the First World War worked for Johnnie Walker Whisky where he became one of the Managing Directors.   The paintings were first exhibited in the Royal Academy in London in May 1923 and they were donated to the Dick Institute in 1927 by Lady Stevenson.
