Tucker 2
Much of John Taylor's work is abstract or semi-abstract with a
certain ambiguity to it. The link between this work and it's title
is unknown.
Taylor has acknowledged many different influences on his work
but of particularuly note is that of the Scottish Colourists and
the American Abstract Expressionists.
This work shows Taylor's characteristic calm and confident,
yet subtle use of colour and the lines have an expressionist
quality, even investing the piece a sense of
movement.
This work won the 1978 Colquhoun Memorial Prize. In 1980 he
produced a screenprint very similar to this painting which he
called simply "Tucker".
