Self Portrait - Alexander Mackay

Alexander MacKay established a name for himself as a portrait painter in Kilmarnock in the second half of the 19th century.   MacKay came from an accomplished local family: His brother James MacKay was also an artist, he specialised in landscapes, and their brother David became Provost of the town.    Alexander and James both trained at the Trustee's Academy in Edinburgh.
