Ruthven Castle
Sir David Young
Cameron was born in Glasgow and studied both at Glasgow
School of Art and in Edinburgh. He began producing etchings in
his early twenties and it was with these that he first established
himself as an artist, his prints becoming very collectible within
his lifetime. During his career as an artist, he is known to have
produced over 500 etching plates.
Cameron also painted consistently throughout his career, at
first a variety of subjects including portraits and architecture
but focusing increasingly on the Scottish landscape in the later
years of his career. He was knighted in 1924 in recognition of his
contribution to British art and art institutions.
