Corot's paintings form a link between the classical landscape
tradition and the French Impressionist movement. Trained in the
former, French painter Jean Baptiste Camille Corot took the
innovative approach of sketching out -of-doors attempting to
capture an immediate response to nature. These sketches were later
worked up into paintings in his studio. It is believed he was
influenced in this by English painter John Constable. The French
Impressionists later produced completed paintings out-of-doors as
opposed to simply sketches.
