From a Tower, Kirkcudbright
Towards the end of the 19th century, Kirkcudbright became home
to an artist's colony. Charles Oppenheimer was amongst a number of
artists attracted by the inspirational scenery and the company of
other creative minds. Oppenheimer was born in Manchester and
studied at the Manchester School of Art. He travelled and
painted in Italy but settled in Kirkcudbright in 1908, remaining
there for the rest of his life. He worked in oils and watercolours
and painted scences in Dumfriesshire and in Ayrshire.
