Eemis Stane
This print by Stuart MacFadzean is inspired by a poem of the
same name by Hugh MacDiarmid in which the poet contemplates the
earth moving unsteadily through space. MacDiarmid, whose signature
has been found on the back of this print, was a leader of the
Scottish Literary Renaissance which began during the first half of
the 20th century. MacDiarmid sought to revive the use of the Scots
language.
This print has been made with procion dyes. These were
originally developed for use with textiles and produce very intense
colours.
Eemis Stane won first prize in the Colquhoun Competition in 1975.
