Cleansed III

Artist Iain McColl was an official war artist sent to record the conflict in Bosnia in the early 1990s. His series of drawings entitled 'Cleansed' refer to the ethnic cleansing he witnessed. He gives little visual detail about these figures but isolated against their black backgrounds, pushed down low in the picture frame and with their distorted, anguished features, McColl expresses something of the human horror and suffering brought about by the war. McColl works predominantly as a sculptor and his drawings have a sculptural quality to them.
